I'm not too sure why, but i like black and white games. I don't think i played many as a kid as i kinda caught the arcade wave a bit late. I do remember seeing Boot Hill, Sprint 2, Sea Wolf, oh and space invaders, but that was about it. I do however remember actually playing Taito 'Blue Shark' and being completely stumped by how the diver was moving (seemingly) in and out of the scenery. That got to me, and remained in my head for years to come. I have yet to find a TAITO version since.

Since then, i have been fascinated by the very scant amount of information pertaining to anything produced prior to 1978 with the emergence of space invaders, and with the exception of computer space and pong :) Atari grew fat off the profits of a whole bunch of games created after pong, which put them in the position as the market leader when the 1980's boomtime came. Still, there are few remaining examples of often neglected 1970's machines that i hope to be able to help me research into this forgotten (if not at least overlooked) period in Atari's history.... I'm starting by collecting all related ephemera i can find...

I need to point out that the inspiration for my atari-centred page was as a result of seeing
the bronzeage section spies.. as you probably know, spies dissapeared quite a while ago,
but it looks like it has re-appeared in another forme form, and i must urge you
to visit Al's old site if you are into bronzeage stuff from every other manufacturer by
following the link below!

Atari Coin-op came out of Tipperary, Ireland from 1977 onwards,
before that, Atari UK was based near Castle Donnington.

Atari-europe S.A came out of Paris-France, some sort of linkup with 'Socodimex' in the 70's

Atari in Germany was distributed by 'Löwen spielautomaten' (lion playmatics) in the 70's
